This is, or, well, could be had I owned a radio, day ZERO for me! Somewhere between coming home from work and vacuuming the house my call sign was granted and posted to the ULS database! I am henceforth known among my HAM piers as KJ4FFC. Pleased to meet you all! How's that call sign for contesting? "-.- .--- ....- ..-. ..-. -.-."? Good, bad, indifferent? I'm getting ahead of myself, I know, but I was just wondering.
Nice! That definitely beats my 22 years on the air that I just passed
last week.
(Only 3 more years until I'm eligible for the ARRL ... dangit, can't
remember the
ARRL group that's open to people that have had their licenses for at
least 25 years...)

Out of curiosity, how long have other people been on the air. How old were
you when you got your ticket and what were the circumstances that caused
you to get it?

For myself, I was licensed in 1986 when I was 16. My grandfather and I did
it at the same time (I got KB4TYE, he got KB4TYF) through a special class
at my secondary school. I started out with a Novice license. I upgraded to
Tech in 1992 then General in 2000 and Extra in 2002. Most of my operating
happens on VHF & UHF but I have designs of doing more with APRS and HF.

Cheers,
