Last year several TriLUG members got together as a study group for the RHCE, meeting every 2 weeks over the course of about 16 weeks. It went so well, a second group has just started up to do it again. The study group is targeted for people who are serious about taking the RHCE exam.
The study group meets every other Wednesday. (The meeting schedule will be adjusted as needed to make sure that realtime meetings don't happen in the same week as TriLUG meetings - for details, see the schedule below.) The presenter will make their presentation available on the Monday before the meeting, so participants have time to go over it before the meeting; meetings will consist of a presentation and demo (not hands-on). This way the presenter gets a weekend to create their masterpiece, and we all get a couple days to read it before the presentation.
Participants are encouraged to play with the presentation material at home over the following week; we will meet in IRC the following Wednesday for Q&A, troubleshooting, etc.
(Short version: Content Monday, presentation & demo Wednesday; IRC discussion the following Wednesday. Lather, rinse, repeat.)
We have a syllabus, originally created by Sinner, and modified as our circumstances change. It's based on the previous group's syllabus, modified by experience and new reference material on the topics covered in the RHCE exam. Presentations, IRC logs, and class notes are linked off the syllabus.
A mailing list is available for general discussion, coordination of dinner before meetings, etc.
For dinner accommodations, there are a few options. Food can be had at the Celebration @ Six Fork strip mall. There's a Wendy's near the corner of Newton and Six Forks. If you plan to eat beforehand, please allow enough time to show up promptly for the meeting - we'll be starting right at 8pm.
IRC meetings are at 8pm in #trilug-rhce, which can be reached via irc.freenode.net / irc.trilug.org . (If you don't have an IRC client already, one option is to use irssi from TriLUG shell account.)
This schedule is subject to change without notice. We're still seeking volunteers for the unclaimed meetings...
