[Linux-ham] Ham firmware for WRT54G?

So, I had a thought this morning as I was talking on the repeater on
the way to work this morning. Is there a ham specific version of
firmware for the Linksys WRT54G that would let a ham radio
operator load it up and then take advantage of the extra stuff
hams are allowed to do on the 2.4GHz band? And, if not, why not?
How hard would it be to setup something like that? What could
be done with it if it existed? What do people think?
Cheers,
