In the past TriLUG has had a table to help promote open-source software for ham
radio users, especially using the Linux operating system. We would have several
distros and an ISO of ham-radio software on tap, and burn CD/DVDs on demand as
we convince patrons the benefits of Linux and available ham-radio software to
replace their Windows variety. We would ask for a $5 donation for each to cover
the cost of media and the hamfest table & ticket costs.
This year, after the presentations of Software Defined Radio and station
monitoring & control software discussions in the linux-ham interest group, I
thought we could also demonstrate various SDR setups and uses of Linux systems
for the ham radio enthusiast. After our drone seminar, I thought we could also
show (albeight stationary) a temporary communications relay using a drone relay
host -- we would have to just tie a drone with the communications package in the
air over the table.
