[RHCE] new to the list and would like to know what version of RH to
study with

IMO, RH stays current with its releases for the test; but much of the
configuration knowledge is similar regardless of release.

I doubt any of the books are up to date. The best I've seen so far
have been the red hat press books. Here's one I used...

There are other more-easy-to-read books that are more designed to help
you pass the exam. (I actually read this one first as the one above wasn't
available when I started studying.)

RH usually upgrades their test about a month after a release.
