[RHCE] RHCE Help

I took the test with RH.8.0 Psyche. So it was the latest one. The test format is different from what was on the redhat official page. (although someone has told me they just recently, within the past few days, changed it)

B4 you had to get average of 80 across 3 components with no score being under 50 in any single component. Since then they have introduced a raft of minor changes, mainly to accomodate rhct.

Now to obtain rhce, you must obtain over 50% in the troubleshoot, pass the MC, get 70% in the rhcT component of the server install and get 70% in the rhcE component of the server install. AND get 80% or more average. IF any of those are not met then you do not get RHCE. You may however still get RHCT if you get 50% in the troubleshoot and over 70% in the rhcT component of the server install. Kapish..

You will walk out of the exam knowing your marks to the troubleshoot and the MC. I got 100 for the troubleshoot and 92 for the MC. Needless to say I got complacent in the Server Install and ran out of time (that is truly the killer section). I will know my results soon.

I did not do the rh300 course. And in my opinion U do not need it. What you need more is actually hands on experience. Especially for the server install part. If you dilly-dally looking up man pages you will certainly not finish in time. I don't know anyone who has done the course, but I don't beleive they can cover as much scope and depth and experience over 4 days... Experience is Really what matters.

I've been using Linux for 1 and half years only (but that is full use, totally got rid of windows partitions). And I'm on the computer A Lot, my work computers are also on RedHat. It took me a whole month to study for RHCE (but we are talking 8 to 10 hours of serious study everyday) I went through the RHCE study guide by Micheal Jang (it is the latest one out there, based on the beta of RH8.0), the RedHat 8.0 bible, the Redhat 8.0 official sysadmin guide, the redhat 8.0 reference guide and the customisation guide. I had practice tests supplied with the RHCE study guide and also bought the RHCE Prep Exams from whizlabs. I also had a 5 networked machines to do all my server side stuff. I doubt the rh300 could cover what I did.

Hear from you all again,
Mark

Thank you for the info :)

Now, the test that you took, was it a RH7.x or a RH8.x thing?
What was your experience in Linux before taking the test?
Did you study by yourself or did you take the RH300 or similar?

Thank you in advance.

Salut,
Sinner
