Correct. I had sort of always assumed most of us would be taking the
RHCE after April, and hence the Red Hat Linux 9.0 version anyway. If
you notice I've mentioned features of the Phoebe beta several times for
this reason.

I'm actually interested in studying Red Hat *Linux* 9. Sorry for making
a deal of this, but it's a peeve of mine. Red Hat is the company, Red
Hat Linux is the product.

Within 3 to 4 weeks of the release, the exam will be updated for the new
version.

Sure, the basic points should be the same.

No, IMO we don't need to change anything. I really don't think enough
things will be different. Sure there will be minor changes (like
rehdat-config-printer works for both CUPS and LPRng instead of only
LPRng), but nothing show-stopping. The release notes for RHL 9, when it
comes out, will be invaluable here.

I agree that is a bit frustrating, but I also have no interest in being
certified on yesterday's technology, so I like the RHCE policy. It was
no big secret that Red Hat's release cycle is about 6 months, so I was
definitely expecting a release sometime in April.

What is interesting is that the current RHCE policy says that your
certification becomes expired when it's two major versions old. So
anyone who currently has a certification on 7.x will have to re-certify
on 9 to stay current, unless they plan to revise the policy. I suspect
when that policy was drafted they didn't expect that binary
compatibility would be changing quite as much, thus requiring the 9.0
release.
