Cool.  That's one question I hadn't yet found an answer to.  Subscribing
to this list (which I just barely did) is already worth it.  :)

I was looking into this earlier for a different reason (namely that it's
difficult for some groups (e.g. *.edu) to constantly upgrade all
workstations, RHEL is too expensive, but security upgrades are still
needed).  In doing so, I found a RHEL rebuild mini-HOWTO:

I've read through it, but didn't have any time to try anything out, as
I've been somewhat busy.  If you want to try this out, I'd be interested
in hearing your experiences.  If I can find some time, hopefully I'd be
able to help out too--at least a little bit.
