hw update -

i connected the hp 4 mm dat, powered speakers and separate
keyboard/video/mouse to n1 so we'll have a completely independent test
system from the other two computers (topbox and bottombox).

vnc will now let us pull up the same screen on each individual computer so
we won't have to hurt our eyes with the dinky monitor on n1.

i spent more time than i care to admit screwing with vnc and poking the
right holes through my firewalls.  maybe someone else can volunteer to tweak
ftp and smb so we can spew files back and forth on n1.
