Closed Membership? Huh? Re: [RHCE] Group business 9/17/03

Jeremy, et al,
This decision was made by the group so that we wouldn't have to
backtrack or review for someone who comes in at the middle or toward the end
of our study based on progress in the book. Since most of us are paying for
the RHCE test with our own money and since this group creation was well
publicized, we reasoned that anyone who was interested in membership had
ample time to join the group, and obtain the book and directions to Jim's
house. Further, we felt that having people coming and going from the group
could create a disruption of what we consider serious study and discussion.
As such, we decided to close membership after our review and discussion of
Chapter 1 was complete. If someone came to us with a compelling reason why
they had been out of the loop for 3 weeks or so, we would likely allow them
to join, but we'd rather not just have people coming and going, especially
given that assignments are now being made for book work for the next
session, and for sections to be taught by group members. We realize that at
some points in our study, we'll may need to ask an extra-group speaker to
come in and teach a section, but it would be at our discretion.
