[TriLUG] Filesystem recover (or: I....am a big dummy)

Let me start off by sayig I'm a dumba$$.

I wanted to use ext3 on my laptop.So, I build a kernel, update the
ext2 filesystem tools, and boot into single user mode.

Let's see, how to creat the journal? mke2fs -j /dev/*** right?

Wrong.

I admit, I should have used tune2fs -j /dev/***, and my nice blank
/home partition shows it. 

Question :

Is there any way to undo a mke2fs? Can I get my .muttrc, .emacs, and
mail/ directory back?

And, god forbid, the code I had been working on that wasn't ready to
be put into the public CVS repository just yet. 

Help!!!
