it will be interesting to watch how politicians will rationalize any
such moves, since g. w. bush, in his initial address, stressed that
the u.s. will not change the way it operates, and that it will not
respond by restricting freedoms.

he made this position *very* clear, so it's up to all of us to watch
closely for any reneging.
