I tried this first, but at the time I was using "dump", and it doesn't work 
with NFS mounted file systems for some reason. The man page for dump said it 
would take a directory as a parameter, for an examination of the data on the 
actual tape showed that none of the files were being backed up. It worked 
fine if you give it a device file, though.

I tried mounting the remote file system to back up on the machine with the 
tape drive, but root can't access the files on the remote machine that aren't 
world readable. Is there some magic NFS setting for this?
