Hi all,
In my search for a mail client I decided to give evolution another try.
Well, I still think it needs to evolve some more. (to be fair its
still in beta)
1. No spell check (booooo!) who needs a mail client with no spell check
(in fact this is the most important feature I'm seeking)
2. Cut and paste in doesn't work. You can use the mouse cut and paste
but not key or menu based. There are times when the middle button is
not convienent. Next I really like the feature from mozilla (netscape)
mail that lets me "paste as quotation". This isn't even an item.
3. Looks too much like outlook. Where I work they like enforcing the
use of particular software (even IDEs). One piece is outlook. I have
nightmeres about outlook developing a security flaw that emails everyone
I know mails saying "I went to a backstreet boys concert with Bill Gates
and Windows Rules!" (none of which would be true) and the resultant
backlash causing me great pain and suffering. Even looking at the
software that looks just like outlook scares me. I understand it has to
look sorta like outlook but I think they can flavor it up more and have
it look more like outlook in the way gnome looks kinda like windows but
not really.
4. No spell check
5. Did I mention no spell check.
6. It crashes just about as often as outlook (again its in beta --
outlook or evolution you ask? Well Microsoft release < 10.0 || 3000 =
beta, linux release <1.0 = beta or alpha -- so the answer is yes.)
7. It has all that contact management stuff but I don't care about any
of that. All those things are useless to me.. Why you ask? Because I
can't pick it up and put it in my wallet. Why....I can do that with my
Palm Pilot....soooo guess where I keep all that? So you say I could
import the data and synch with my palm pilot.. Thats nice but I can
always just take my wallet out of my pocket and press the button and
boom I have the info I need... But what about integrating the data.. .
Well, thats far more effort for me than just typing in the occasional
email address or phone number and why would I need to import
appointments/etc when the pilot will beep and tell me where to go anyhow
so who cares? Not I.
8. NO annoying macro feature that allows email viruses... This is a
plus. I hope they resist the temptation.
9. turning on "leave mail on client" results in it redownloading the
mail over and over again (duplicates)...kinda annoying. As a
suggestion the exact same mail from the exact same time from the exact
same person is a dupe. Or however other mail clients handle it.
So anyway thats what I have to say about evolution. to Ximian....ADD
SPELL CHECK BEFORE WHIZ BANGS LIKE PGP SIGNING!
