Good deal, but sometimes, for advanced hardware that's not part of a
distro's tree yet, it's advantageous to use a semi-stable dev
kernel. In my case, I used the AC builds until Linus merged in the
full Hermes PCMCIA driver code.

Well, you only ahve to track it until the feature you need from it is
merged into the main tree. 

In my case, I got hooked on ext3 durring the roswell beta. So now, to
use a stock kernel, the first thing I have to do is patch in the ext3
patches....
