Guys and gals, don't forget our buds at Stay Online too. They give us good
hardware and prices.

I've bought from both, so I'm familiar with both.

I should add that in the Cary store they do not ACTUALLY support Linux.
They usually have a couple of out of date RedHat boxes for sale, but only a
few of the service guys use Linux. However, they usually carry
Linux-friendly hardware. In short, last time I was in there, you could NOT
buy a computer from them and have them install RedHat on it. However, they
are an excellent source for inexpensive hardware which works and much of
which is Linux-friendly. My perspective on them is solely as one of their
customers. I DO NOT WORK FOR THEM OR OWN STOCK, ETC., ETC. They also have
ISP service which is very cheap ($15 @ month). The best thing I like about
Intrex, however, is the guarantee on all their parts. Anything you buy from
them is guaranteed for 12 months. If it goes bad within that time, they will
replace it free. Moreover, they can custom build computers with your choice
of hardware (all of which must be bought from them, however), AND if you
need a new CD or Hard drive, DVD drive, etc. you just pay for the cost of
the part (labor is free!! to upgrade any system with the Intrex label on
it). I used to like to do all this stuff myself, but I've gotten lazier as
OS's have become more complicated. They also post memory and processor
prices daily so you can drop by and see when prices are attractive for
adding memory or upgrading your processor. I have a friend with a shop in
Durham and he's bought a lot of computers from them over the years. It was
he who first made me aware of them. They're not perfect by any means, but I
and several friends have been pretty happy with them over the years.--AL
