I've got a fast machine, but a slow and sporadic dialup connection. Way too
much time on my hands, enough equipment to have some fun, but a slow enough
link to ruin it all.

I have been thinking about packaging up a bastardized Gnu/OpenBSD hybrid or
maybe a roll your own Linux as an actual distro, just for fun, to play with.
As a hacker I think I'd want more of a slick desktop system that was
reasonably secure out of the box, so I could hand a CD to a neophyte and
feel comfortable that they could get it working themselves. The
professional side of me wants something a little more practical for the
corporate sysadmin type, but maybe I'll do that one when someone is ready to
start paying me again. ;-)

Nawwww.... I do it regularly and don't get beat up. Though I am not an OS
bigot. I run Linux, NT, OpenBSD, etc. It's just that my wife prefers
Windoze, doesn't want to learn anything new, and I don't want to go through
the pains of trying to automate a shared dialup connection. So all my
internet stuff is done from Windoze until I am working again and can get the
Roadrunner hookup.
