Chris,

I could be wrong, but here's my understanding of that question:  The
Sourceforge software used
to be under an open-source license.  However, the newer (newest?) version
is now closed source.

So, one can still use the older version under the old license, but the new
versions are no longer
being released open source.  So, could we use the old sourceforge software?
sure.  What are the
limitations or disadvantages of that? I have no idea.

If this is an incorrect assesment of the situation, somebody feel free to
correct me.

I was thinking about the same thing.  It doesn't have to be a super
powerful box.  Disk space
is the primary requisite, and big IDE drives are dirt cheap...  it might be
good to see
if we can scrounge together enough donations to just build an x86 server,
and then if
we need more space, we can save pennies and buy an 80 GB drive for just
over $200.00.
