The old X convention is:

   B1:  select (hilight) text
   B2:  copy previously hilighted text to current position
   B3:  menu

and its being somewhat superseeded in recent apps (Mozilla to some extent?)
by the X drag-n-drop protocol.  I love the old hilight-copy-menu paradigm
and maybe you will, too!  ;-)
