Can you post more information about your setup?  What distribution,
kernel, and version of vmware are you using?

Except for needing to get some patches to make their modules work
with the latest kernels, I've had no problem at all with VMWare 2.0.4
running Windows 2000 under Mandrake 8.0 and 8.1 with 2.4.3, 2.4.8, and
now 2.4.16 kernels.
