There's another option besides GnuCash, and that's the financial section of 
Yahoo. I switched from Managing your Money to Yahoo, and it does most of what 
Quicken does and better. (I'm biased, though, as I can't stand Quicken.)

With Yahoo's financial pages you can do the normal checkbook thing, as the 
bank transactions automatically show up, and then are automatically assigned 
into categories. You can calculate net worth, evaluate budget .v.s actual 
spending, do cash forecasting, and most of the other stuff in Quicken. 
Because its online, I can access the info from work or home, too.
