Nah, I did it the easy way - I wrapped it with stunnel. The steps were :
1) get stunnel tar.gz from stunnel.org
2) compile stunnel
3) as root, copy stunnel.pem to /, chmod'ing same to 400
4) follow the stunnel instuctions for setting up simap and spop3 (inetd
mode, since I was feeling extra lazy, although I could use the stunnel
daemon if I wanted to)
5) open up ports 993 (simap) and 995 (spop3) in my ipchains
6) turn on simap in evolution
