[TriLUG] beijing municipal government spurns microsoft

  there is an amusing link from www.linuxtoday.com describing how
the beijing municipal government awarded contracts to a number
of chinese vendors, choosing linux and non-microsoft office
software.  in fact, microsoft was the only bidding vendor that
was *not* selected.

  there is some delicious irony here.  for years, microsoft
(and many other software vendors) have complained about the
obvious rampant piracy in china and how much money they have
been losing.  a simple solution?  switch off of microsoft
software completely.  no point pirating microsoft software
if it's no longer the official standard.

  this seems to be a splendid lesson in being careful what
you wish for ...
