Grr. Upon further review of the file, that probably won't work, because
all the script does is grep desktop for "GNOME" or "KDE"

So...try changing the line in /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients that says 
PREFERRED=
to
PREFERRED=blackbox

as well as setting DESKTOP="blackbox" in /etc/sysconfig/desktop
