I personally feel AMD took some shortcuts in the Athlons' designs which
have led to a rising number of problems. Windows users have thus far
been shielded from a great many of these and the blasted VIA chipset
problems. We're not quite so lucky.
2.4 is painful in the sense that various components prior to 2.4.10 were
mismerged, and people were not amused. Now that Marcelo is maintaining
it, it has at least begun to stabilize.
