Believe it or not, that'll depend on the input data :)  I'd say 2:1 is
prob. a safe bet, but if you disk isn't very full (lots of sectors that
are all zeroes, perhaps) then the compression could be better.  For the
last cluster I did, I just attached 1 source and 6 target drives to
one chain and (scary enough) did parallel dd's.  It worked out nicely
since it could physical-read (into the page cache) once and write 6x,
but I had a lot of machines to do.
