I posted about this a couple of weeks ago, but now I have the same
symptom on a 2nd RH 7.2 box. I have a development and a production
RH 7.2 system. I run ntpdate once every morning to resync the
clocks. Yes, I know about ntpd, but it's not that critical that the
times are that accurate.
I upgraded the kernel on the test system from 2.4.7-10smp to
2.4.9-31smp. The time offset went from the 0.0x range to around 7.x
seconds post kernel update. Its been consistently around 7 seconds
ever since. The production box remained around the 0.0x range till
last night, when I updated it from 2.4.7-10smp to 2.4.9-31smp as
well. Today it's offset was 1.5 seconds. Granted I have to wait and
see if it moves back down, but this is a noticable difference.
I installed the following rpm's on both machines:
kernel-headers-2.4.9-31.i386.rpm
kernel-2.4.9-31.i686.rpm
kernel-smp-2.4.9-31.i686.rpm
Both machines where "up2date" prior to this manual kernel update. I
know this might now sound like a big deal to most of you, but I find
it disconcerting that my systems are losing several seconds a day,
when they were maintaining fairly accurate time before. Have I done
something wrong ?? What questions do I need to ask myself?
Thx!!
