[TriLUG] Vmware and Xserver

VMWare tries to create a "second" local display, and overlay's it ontop of
your current desktop, i.e. 0:1 is overlayed onto 0:1. You can press
CTRL+ALT+F8 for example to bring the VMWare session into "full screen" but
it's acutally display 0:1.

Hope this helps some. I'm not sure how to get it to work otherwise.

Subject: [TriLUG] Vmware and Xserver

We have a RHL 7.2 server here running VMWare, which I set up for support to
use for testing our apps on various Windoze versions.
Right now I have a wireless laptop running RHL as well, which they use to
SSH into the server and run vmware from their desk. This works, but the load
is a little much for the wireless lan and performance basically blows.

So I set a Windoze X Server,( currently testing with X-Win32). Using XDMCP
sessions I can get connected and have a linux desktop running in the XWin
window, however when I try and run VMWare I get an error " could not open
/dev/vmmon: No such device. Please make sure kernel module vmmon is loaded".
I'm assuming this has something to do with the display, but alas I am but a
child in the world of linux.

Any ideas on how to fix this, if possible?

And if it seems odd that I am trying to set up a Windows app to run a Linux
desktop to run a Linux app that will bring up another Windows desktop....
yea, and? ;-) I had to come up with SOME reason to have a Linux server here
:-O

TIA,
Justin
