[TriLUG] wlan setup

Kevin,

I didn't read the earlier posts, but from reading below are you having
trouble getting pcmica module to recognize your wireless network card? if
so, you are in the same boat I was. I would insert my card and it would
print a hw string in /var/log/kern.log which was not in pcmica/config
stanza. The fix is find the corresponding chipset for a card in config and
dupe it with the actual string.

ie.

Add this:
crd "Xircom Wireless Ethernet Adapter"
      manfid 0x105, 0x0007
      bind "airo_cs"

card "Aironet PC4800"
      manfid 0x15f, 0x0007
      bind "airo_cs"

This because Cisco bought Airo and the Xircom card uses "cisco technology".

I put it first and commented out all the "generic" stuff.

Nope. We did upgrade the firmware (my sysadmin did it for me) not that
long ago, so if you can, do it.

FYI - this is why I keep the pre-installed partition on my laptop. The
manufacturers don't always include DOS or Linux compatible BIOS or
firmware flash upgrade programs.

HTH....
