Really?

xmms , freeamp

Andy,

My LinuxBoxen is my one and only spound system at home. It performs
pretty well: good quality of sound, no glitches no nothing. It sees
heavy use (yes, I like music a lot, specialy talented guitar virtuosos,
heavymetal and electronic music). I've used it in 2 partys so far, as
the jukebox (?) with great success.

My system:

- All-powerfull AMD K6-2-400
- 256 MB RAM
- SoundBlaster PCI64 ("Ensoniq 1370")
- Mandrake 8.2 with KDE 3.0, all bells'n'whistles turned on
- home server, firewall, plenty'a'services
- using xmms through aRTSd and ALSA

**But**

With the original ALSA drivers from Mandrake 8.1, I had problems of bad
sound, lots of "noise", bad bad bad sound...

I reported a bug to xmms.org, 'cause I thought that xmms was to blame.
They found out that ALSA was to blame.

Maybe your problem is similar. Enter a bug against your audio system.

Now I use:

libalsa1-0.5.10b-1mdk
xmms-1.2.7-4mdk
kernel-2.4.18-6mdk
arts-2.2.2-48mdk
arts3-1.0.0-4mdk
libarts3-1.0.0-4mdk
libarts2-2.2.2-48mdk
xmms-arts-0.4-8mdk
libqt2-2.3.1-29mdk
libqt3-3.0.4-1mdk
kdebase-2.2.2-93mdk
kdebase3-nsplugins-3.0-19mdk
kdebase-nsplugins-2.2.2-93mdk
kdebase3-3.0-19mdk

Hope this helps.

Salut,
