If you're using Mandrake, I would change your mp3 ripper suggestion
to be lame because you can get precompiled (for mandrake) binaries
that integrate with the software manager from the Penguin Liberation
Front (http://plf.zarb.org/).  Also, if you're watching DVDs, I think
Ogle is slightly easier to use, but xine works quite well too.  Both
of them, including the dvd css software and the win32 codecs (i.e.
divx) are included at the PLF site.
