[TriLUG] Wireless net equipment

A friend of mine is asking me for help on setting up a wireless LAN in his home, but I haven't setup such a LAN myself. He wants to augment a wired LAN for use with a couple ThinkPads, one running Linux, the other running Windows. He also has a server/router/firewall running Linux.

What equipment would work best for this kind of setup? I've looked around some and it sounds like Orinoco or Prism II PCMCIA cards would work well. As for getting the wireless systems connected to the wired LAN, I don't know what would work well. Any suggestions?
