Well, at the very least, I would probably suggest you grab 
the source rpm and do a "rpm --rebuild <filename>.src.rpm".
That makes sure that it's linked against the versions of libraries
you have, rather than the versions of libraries in PLD.
This isn't a problem with rpms created for your distro, but for
others like this, it can sometimes be a problem.
