[TriLUG] Redhat: Invalid group error when trying to create a group with a number as first character

I've recently tried to create a group such as 1stsavings, with
groupadd and it indicated this was invalid. Although, on older redhat
6.1 systems I've seen such group names.

Is this something new since 7.1 (system I got the error on); or was
redhat 6.x wrong in letting groups beginning with numbers to be
created.
