I believe what they're suggesting is that you get DSL delivered to as
far as it will go (2000 feet away from your house) and then use
wireless to make up the remaining distance. I think the
big problem with it is that phone companies will only sell
DSL service to a residence or business, so you'd have to enlist
the help of one of your neighbors that could get DSL and
do wireless from them to you. Of course, this is one of the
things that gives broadband companies nightmares so good
luck finding terms of service that will let you do this.
I believe there were some good articles about this by the
author Robert X. Cringley (on the pbs.org site, iirc). You
could look there for more info.
