I have learned a *lot* just from the email correspondence in this group, and
would be happy to donate the money for the SCSI card.

I went to the link you cited and the card was listed at $39, not $49, but
they also show it as out of stock.

Thanks to the generosity of RTI and Roy Vestal, we have a new (to us)
external SCSI drive enclosure, and six SCSI hard drives ranging from 9 to
18 GB.  The Trilug sysadmins would like to connect this to our new DEC
Alpha FTP server, mudfoot.  However, we are in need of a SCSI controller
card to hook it up, as well as some cables and terminators.

If you have an Ultra Wide, Fast SCSI (20/40) card that will work with
Linux, and are interested in donating it to TriLUG, we could put it to
great use!

Or if you would be interested in donating money towards this cause, we
could purchase this Mylex card for $49 :

We also need a cable and terminator; or two cables and two terminators
possibly, since we may have too many devices for one cable (due to length
requirements).  A cable or a terminator costs about $20.  Note that the
type of cable needed will depend on what type of connectors the card
has.  The above card has Very High Density 68-pin connectors; the drive
enclosure uses Micro-DB68.  We'll need single-ended active terminator(s).

Once we get this server going, we will be able to greatly increase
Trilug's mirror space, as well as give us the potential for hosting
open-source projects or other initiatives that require drive space.  We
will also be able to increase home directory quotas if needed.

If you're interested in donating, please reply on- or off-list.  Remember
that TriLUG is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and I'll be happy to write a
receipt for cash donations of $20 or more, or any in-kind donation.

In related news, software work on TriLUG's mail server, stonesoup, is
moving ahead steadily.  We hope to have this in action soon.
