Hi there,
I know that I am late in the discussion, but better late than never.
I used to work at a place where 2 builkdings were connected with
microwaves. The buildings were about 5 miles apart. There was, of
course, a LOS (line of sight).
We had 10 MB conenction speed. For any computer, anything seemed to be
in the same LAN. There was the option to upgrade to 100 MB. And this
was in 1999.
I don't believe that it was awfully expensive. We are talking about a
city council-funded healthcare organization in Barcelona (Europe).
I only have words of praise for the microwaves. It worked beautiful, it
gave us (IT) zero problems. Users were very happy everywhere.
Appropiate switched sub-nets provided us with amazing speed.
If you need bandwith, have LOS, and do not want problems, go with
microwaves.
Salut,
Sinner
