A quick read through SMTP suggests 3 ways to fail sending:
1. HELO exchange: server does not recog. you (I am changing from 
smtp.mindspring.com to smtp-server.nc.rr.com to see if I can get in to the 
rr's smtp server)
2. MAIL
3. RCPT
