As Tanner and I mentioned, can you use HTTP through
http://mirrors.trilug.org/ ?  This uses your email address and member
number to log in (you do have an account).  SCP would encrypt everything,
which is a lot of overhead (although it probably wouldn't slow things down
since the bandwidth is the major issue right now.)
