[TriLUG] Buying a laptop with no Microsoft tax?

I tried to do this very same thing. It ended up that I:

1. purcahse a used laptop to install my distro of choice
2. purcahse a Mac

I went the Mac route (14" iBook) and have been happy with the decision. I
also figured that if I couldn't live with Mac OS X for some reason I could
load up Yellow Dog Linux (RH based) and be good to go from that angle as
well. But this wasn't the least expensive route, that was for sure.
