[TriLUG] Is it necessary for fiber between buildings?

The company I used to work for had the same setup (copper under cement).
We had to replace multiple network switches, printer parts (mainly Jet
Direct) and workstation NICs (or sometimes entire workstations) at lease 3
or 4 times every summer until our insurance company threatened to cancel
our policy and our boss FINALLY decided to install fiber. Lucky for me, I
was not the person responsible for the initial cheap install.

You can save money on the initial installation using copper, but you may
find that it will be much more expensive and create more needless repair
work in the long run. Although it may not be absolutely necessary in all
situations, you will be sorry if it is necessary in yours, but thats just
my opinion.
