[TriLUG] Network Cards

Hmmm, that sounds like fun... You can easily bring up your linux box as
a router. Put the second nick into the box and configure it for an
internal network address like 192.168.2.1, then load IPChains on the box
with some simple rules and have it masque for the second card that you
just put in.

Next, configure your other computer with an internal address like
192.168.2.100 and connect it to the first via a crossover cable. If you
can use identical network cards this should work fine.

If you don't have a crossover cable you can wire one up. Here is a
mapping of endpoint to endpoint for a normal ethernet cable and for a
crossover cable:
  Normal     Crossover
  1 --> 1     1 --> 3
  2 --> 2     2 --> 6
  3 --> 3     3 --> 1
  4 --> 4     4 --> 4
  5 --> 5     5 --> 5
  6 --> 6     6 --> 2
  7 --> 7     7 --> 7
  8 --> 8     8 --> 8

Hope that's right!

Have fun - Jon Carnes
