I've not done it the Linux way yet but the Mac seems to be a real dream 
with all aspects of video work.  I don't think you could go wrong there.

Though whenever I'm out of the current employment slump I'd like to get 
a dual athlon box here to try Cinelerra (NLE for Linux).  I haven't yet 
run into any decent DVD mastering software for Linux, but it is 
abundantly available on OS X right now.
