I have 2 Thinkpad 600's both with Linux installed. One was a little
easier to set up. These two platops aren't exactly the same. Model type
2645-35U has a 233Mhz processor and a 12.2" screen. This laptop seems to
have all the functionality you would expect in Windows i.e. sound,
modem, irda, pcmcia, etc. No problems with Linux. The other one has been
a nightmare. Model type 2645-51U has a 266Mhz processor and a 13.3"
screen. The biggest problem I have come across is sound. It refuses to
work; it works great in Windows. There are seveal articles out there
dedicated specifically to this model type. I have tried everything,
kernel 2.4 series, 2.5, alsa, oss, isapnp, scanpci, changed the ioport
and irq, loaded as modules or compiled directly into the kernel. Nothing
wants to work. I would much rather use this laptop because the screen
will do 1024x768, the 2645-35U only does 800x600. Does anyone else have
this model with sound working? Any suggestions? Thanks, William
