I have a combo DVD/CD-RW on my RedHat 8.0 laptop. It works fine with
XcdRoast and Gnome Toaster. I have had to read data on a DVD with this
laptop and it has worked great doing that (about 10 gigs worth of .cpio
files), but I have not tries it using XINE.
Good luck! and Happy Holidays!

All,
Merry Xmas / Happy Holidays / Belated Happy Hannukah!
Xmas is about to hit me in the face (or so to speak *grin*). And my
"Techno Santa" is going to give me a DVD player (internal IDE).
There's one that Techno Santa specialy likes: a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo unit
form Samsung (Samsung SM-32, 23x CDR, 10x CDRW, 40x CDROM, 12x DVDROM).
Here there are some questions for you, specialy if you have a similar
one:
- - Do those combos units work under Linux?
- - How well do they do CD-RW? And DVD? I have Xine + PLF (penguin
lberation front).
- - How well do they do DVD?
- - What does Linux use for DVD reproduction? RAM? CPU? Videcard? I have a
K6-2-400, 256MB, nVidia TNT2-32MB
I'm fearless, so I don't mind having to spend some time tweaking around
( have MDK 9.0. I can mess with the Kernel compilation, boot options,
create entried in the /dev...)
Thanks in advance,
Salut,
Sinner
