there's lots of instances of word-wrapping going on here, and it's
impossible to tell if that's the real file or your email client.
You're much better off making the ddclient.conf file an email
attachment so you can avoid that issue.

> use=ip,                ip=127.0.0.1	# via static IP's
> use=if,                 if=eth0		# via interfaces
> use=if, if=ppp0
> use=web					# via web

you shouldn't have any of these uncommented, you only want the use=fw
one, assuming it works fine for getting your IP.

The real questions:

- does the linux box get a public IP or a private one and the DSL
  router is the only one with the public IP?
  - if linux box has public IP, go with the "use=if, if=eth0" line
  - if linux box has private, go with the "use=fw" stuff and check settings
