VMWare rocks, I use it here and there, "both directions" A Windows
system at work has Red Hat running in a VM, and we have dome the other
direction as well, Red Hat system at home with Win2K in a VM. 

Microsoft actually has gone to delivering pre-betas of new OS builds as
VMs to their employees.  

I have seen a laptop running 2 instances of .NET server, created his own
AD for the purposes of a demonstration at a conference.



It's a bargain at ~$300.
