Yikes.  I have never heard of that.  That seems like a pretty standard
thing to do to a router, though, so it's surprising that makes it bite
the dust.
How long did it take to get your replacement unit?

One was a year old.  The other was two years old.  I tried 10.0.0.0/24
and it puked hard.
