[TriLUG] change speed/duplex on xircom pcmcia NIC?

hi all!

i'm trying to find a way to hardcode the port speed and duplex on a xircom
pcmcia NIC under redhat 7.3 (generic laptop installation, in a dell
latitude cpi laptop, if that matters). it doesn't have an entry in
/etc/modules.conf, and it's not supported by mii-tool or ethtool...

ethtool -i gives:

[root at localhost root]# ethtool -i eth0
driver: xircom_cb
version:
firmware-version:
bus-info:

is there an obvious clue i'm missing? i can't believe something this
basic isn't supported, but i haven't been able to find anything in google
or the redhat docs to indicate how to do it.

(i installed kde, rather than gnome, so i don't have
redhat-config-network; from the dependencies, it looks like i pretty much
have to install all of gnome just to get that running. is this
functionality accessible from there? it's not clear from the redhat
customization guide whether it is or not, and i don't see much point in
going down that rabbithole if it isn't.)

any clues will be most appreciated!
