My name is Lynne Deese and I work for the North Carolina Assistive
Technology. I assist persons with disabilities in finding the technology
that will best meet their needs. Part of my job is computer access and I am
seeing an increased interest in Linux. There are some fine accessibility
options available at low or no cost. This is particularly attractive to many
consumers that I work with as they are generally low income. Each year our
organization holds a state conference called the EXPO. We would be very
interested in featuring a computer access workshop based on the Linux
operating system. I am looking for persons in the community that might like
to help in procuring and building a Linux lab and assisting me in learning
more about the system and its accessibility options. Please contact me if
this sounds like something you might like to be a part of. NCATP is part of
the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Service. My work numbers and
other information are below.

Chris Hedemark had a great idea last InstallFest. Someone donates blank CDs
to
TriLUG and TriLUG sells burned Linux distributions "a la carte", for $1/CD
(or something), inorder to increase TriLUG funds.

Has someone thought about setting up a server with the ost recent/used
distros?

RedHat 7.3/8.0/8.1?
Mandrake 8.2/9.0/9.1?
Debian Stable/Unstable
Slackware 8.1
Knoppix
(.. insert here your favourite distro...)

Yes, please read my original message.

I'm setting up a server with Red Hat 7.3 and 8.0, Mandrake 9, and Debian
stable (maybe testing if I still have room) -- network isntall trees.
This will be on Durham Tech's network; we'll have the information
available at the installfests. No Internet installations will be possible
due to bandwidth constraints.

Jason is setting up a CD-burning workstation with the ISOs of MDK 9 and
Red Hat 8.0. I agree that we should repeat Chris's plan of selling the
CDs for a small fee as a minor fundraiser. Merle, if you could bring the
CDs for this and work with Jason on getting the server that would be cool.
Or if you think we should have two servers that's fine.

Let's say setup begins at 9am. There will be quite a few tables and
chairs that need to be moved, and we'll have to setup the network and power.
There aren't all that many power outlets in the room, so the more
extension cords and power strips that people can bring, the better!

Thanks,
Jeremy

Burning distros is a great idea. I have a bunch of 50 / 100 / 200 packs
of good quality CDR's lying around I'd gladly donate to the LUG, if
needed.

I was thinking of how to put it without coming off wrong. :-) Now
that you broached the subject...

What I learned is that having a CD-R there is nice and all, but the
best thing to do is have pre-made sets of the latest Red Hat (and a
couple of Mandrakes... but Red Hat was far and away the most
requested), put them in the super-slim jewel cases, and sell them for
$10 for a set of 3 discs. 100% of the $10 went to TriLUG.

Sure, I could have put $20 in the box as a donation. But my money went
a lot farther by buying CD's, burning Red Hat ISO's, and donating 100%
of the take to TriLUG.

I had an FTP server set up at the last installfest and again Red Hat
was far and away the favorite. Someone always seems to bring a sparc
station so you might want to have on-hand one or two sparc distros
(Aurora is the most up-to-date, Debian is also a good one). Having the
latest Mandrake tree online would also be good.

It might not be a bad idea to set up a kickstart floppy image to
automate the Red Hat installs since they seem to be the most popular.

Samba's docs say that the current release of winbindd can't authenticate
against a Samba emulated PDC, only against an MS DC.
(I was just researching this kind of thimg myself and came across
this...)

Also, for RedHat 8.0 and Mandrake 9.1, it would be a good idea to,
maybe, get an extra CD with the updates or something.

Remember to get a sign saying something like:

"Get your own Linux CDs here!"

"Note: your small contribution will go to the funds of this Non-profit
Organization... bla bla bla.... if you wat a receipt for your taxes ...
bla bla bla"

looks like a certificate problem.

Getting email is fine.

sending email causes a popup 'Unknown certificate', with
accept, reject buttons.

If I accept it, it comes back with same dialog box 'Unknown certificate'
It will keep on putting the the dialog box up if I keep accepting it.

Has this changed recently?

I'm using mozilla 1.2 to send email.
